Day 1. Arrive Broome.
Arrive in Broome and be transferred to the iconic Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa, where you will enjoy the evening at leisure. Stay: Broome, Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa.
Day 2. Gibb River Road, Tunnel Creek, Windjana Gorge, Fitzroy Crossing.
Depart Broome and begin your amazing Kimberley 4WD land adventure. Your day starts with a visit to the fascinating Boab Prison Tree which was once used to hold prisoners. Continue your journey along the Gibb River Road, a remote 660-kilometre outback highway stretching between Broome and Kununurra. The ‘Gibb’ passes spectacular landscapes of intensely coloured ranges, dramatic gorges, deep rock pools and waterfalls. Continue on to Windjana Gorge, where sheer cliffs tower above glistening white sands. Admire the ancient marine fossils embedded in the gorge walls and scour the banks for freshwater crocodiles. Turn off to explore Tunnel Creek, a 750-metre-long natural tunnel carved through the Napier Range. With torch in hand, wade through the cool waters that fill the tunnel and emerge on the other side to the sight of a tranquil and stunning oasis. Stay: Fitzroy Crossing, Fitzroy River Lodge. BLD
Day 3. Purnululu National Park.
Depart Fitzroy Crossing and travel to Purnululu National Park, one of Australia’s most stunning natural landscapes. Day 4. Echidna Chasm.
Take one of Australia’s most captivating hikes to Echidna Chasm, a spectacular cleft in the rock. Then join a hike along a Livistona palm-fringed trail to see the spectacular Mini Palms Gorge. BLD
Day 5. Purnululu National Park, Piccaninny Creek, Cathedral Gorge.
Explore the magic of Purnululu for yourself and discover the depth of the Bungle Bungle Range. The park is home to the famed black and orange striped domes, ascending to 578 metres above sea level. Standing over a grass-covered plain, steep cliffs form the western face. Created by the constant erosion of river movements over a staggering 20 million years, the range has both geological and Indigenous cultural significance. Walk along Piccaninny Creek, a winding gorge within the Bungle Bungle domes. Your next stop is the natural amphitheatre of Cathedral Gorge, a spacious cavern where the acoustics are astounding. Marvel at the majestic beehive domes as your guide brings the natural history of the range to life. This evening, enjoy drinks as the sun sets over the striking Bungle Bungle massif. BLD
Day 6. Halls Creek.
This morning you have the option to take a scenic helicopter flight over Mitchell Falls (at own expense). Afterwards, head to the unusual China Wall. A natural quartz formation that runs six kilometres along the landscape, the wall is an echo of that for which it was named – the Great Wall of China. Continue along the Great Northern Highway to the historic gold mining town of Halls Creek. Stay: Halls Creek Motel. BLD
Day 7. Geikie Gorge, Broome.
Travel to Geikie Gorge National Park and explore magnificent Darngku (Geikie Gorge). Flooding of the river has bleached the walls white over time – an intriguing sight that makes it popular with photographers. Board a unique cruise before returning to Broome. Return to Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa and later this evening, perhaps enjoy a drink before dinner at the Sunset Bar and Grill and soak up the sunning beach views as the sun dips below the Indian Ocean. Day 8. Broome, Embark Ship.
This morning check out of your hotel and enjoy a short Broome tour before transferring to your expedition ship. Ten Night Stay: MS Caledonian Sky or L’Austral. BD PLEASE NOTE: This cruise is based on the MS Caledonian Sky.
Day 9. Adele Island, Buccaneer Archipelago.
Cruise through the spectacular Buccaneer Archipelago, home to more than 800 islands and countless marine and birdlife. Arrive at Adele Island, an important location for breeding seabirds including the Lesser Frigatebird and the Brown Booby. BLD
Day 10. Talbot Bay, Horizontal Falls.
Talbot Bay is known for its massive 12-metre tides that create an amazing spectacle, the unique Horizontal Falls. Subject to tidal conditions, you will embark on an exhilarating ride through the incredible falls on a specially designed high-powered fast boat. David Attenborough described the phenomena as “one the greatest natural wonders of the world.” Keep your eyes open for the prolific local Tawny Nurse Shark population. Back on board this evening, enjoy a delicious dinner as you recount stories from this exiting day. BLD
Day 11. Raft Point, Doubtful Bay, Montgomery Reef.
Visit a Wandjina rock art site at Raft Point before cruising through Doubtful Bay, an amazing location for whale watching during the season. Embark on an unforgettable adventure today as the magnificent Montgomery Reef ‘rises’ out of the ocean as the tidal waters cascade down into the surrounding channels. Board your Zodiac to experience this natural phenomenon up close and discover the reef’s diverse marine life. BLD
Day 12. Careening Bay, Prince Regent Reserve, St George’s Basin.
Explore Careening Bay, and see the bay’s boab tree named after the HMC Mermaid that Phillip Parker King was forced to beach here in 1820. Later, you’ll visit Prince Regent Nature Reserve, a significant protected natural area of the Kimberley. After time discovering this area, you’ll take a picturesque cruise through St George’s Basin. Day 13. Prince Frederick Harbour, Hunter River, Mitchell Falls.
Arrive at Prince Frederick Harbour, home to soaring red cliffs and thick mangrove forests. With its extreme tides and pristine ecosystems, there is an incredible range of wildlife to discover here including saltwater crocodiles, mudskippers and a vast array of colourful birdlife. Board a Zodiac to explore the Hunter River and visit Naturalist Island where an optional helicopter excursion to Mitchell Falls departs (own expense). Back on board, enjoy dinner as you cruise along the scenic Kimberley Coast. BLD
Day 14. Bigge Island.
Approximately six kilometres from the mainland, Bigge Island is well known for its Indigenous rock art, created by the Wunambal people. Board your ship’s Zodiacs with your expert Expedition Team and make landfall on the island to discover caves throughout the island, and see Indigenous paintings that display fascinating examples of first contact art, depicting European tall ships and the intriguing Wandjina figures for which this region is renown. Enjoy dinner back aboard your ship this evening. BLD
Day 15. Vansittart Bay, Jar Island.
With your Expedition Team, walk across salt flats to view the wreckage of a US Air Force DC3 which crash landed on the beach during World War II. Later, visit Jar Island and discover the island’s outstanding rock art gallery. During your exploration here, you will see examples of the Kimberley’s mysterious Bradshaw (Gwion Gwion) paintings, dating back some 20,000 years. BLD
Day 16. Koolama Bay, King George River and Falls.
Wake up in Koolama Bay, named after a merchant ship bombed by the Japanese in World War II. Arriving at King George River, the highlight is sure to be King George Falls. The highest single drop falls in Western Australia, it plunges approximately 80 metres over a magnificent sandstone cliff. BLD
Day 17. At sea.
Today you have the opportunity to explore your expedition ship with a full day at sea. Relax and enjoy the many public areas available to you including the Sun Deck and the Panorama Lounge, which features a bar and floor-to-ceiling windows. You also may like to enjoy some engaging presentations from your Expedition Team. BLD
Day 18. Disembark Ship, Depart Darwin.
Disembark in Darwin after breakfast and be transferred to the airport or to your hotel. B
