Itinerary May - Oct

As this Short Break departs at 7.15am, accommodation will need to be pre-booked for the previous night.

Day 1: Darwin - Kakadu National Park

Join the famous Jumping Crocodile Cruise. Travel into Kakadu National Park for lunch and visit Bowali Visitor Centre. View ancient Aboriginal rock art and take a guided walk to the top of Ubirr for magnificent views.

Optional Experience: Add-on a 30 minute scenic flight 

A scenic flight is the ideal way to appreciate the sheer scale and beauty of Kakadu and the Arnhem Land Escarpment. You’ll discover winding rivers, spectacular 1.8 billion years of continuous erosion, billabongs, flood plains and view the Archway, East Alligator River Valley, Mikinj Valley Billabongs and Magela Floodplains.

Day 2: Kakadu National Park – Katherine

Take a guided walk at Nourlangie to view Aboriginal rock art. Continue to Warradjan Cultural Centre, before a cruise on the famous Yellow Water Billabong to observe saltwater crocodiles and prolific wildlife. This afternoon travel via Pine Creek to Katherine

Day 3: Katherine Gorge Cruise – Darwin

Enjoy a morning cruise through Katherine Gorge and watch for crocodiles basking in the sun. Then proceed to the informative Nitmiluk Visitor Centre for an opportunity to look around, before continuing to Edith Falls. The paperbark and pandanus fringed natural pool at the base of the falls is safe for swimming throughout most of the year (conditions permitting). Stop at Adelaide River War Cemetery, en route to Darwin.

Day 4: Litchfield National Park - Farewell from Darwin

Follow the Stuart Highway via Batchelor to Litchfield National Park. View Florence Falls before making your way down the stairs to the plunge pool below with an opportunity to swim. Visit Tolmer Falls for a magnificent view of the water cascading down to the deep waterhole below. Venture to Wangi Falls for another opportunity for a swim in the large crystal-clear pool and an optional steady climb through the rainforest to the top of the falls. You’ll stop for a picnic lunch. A great day also for taking many interesting photos, including the amazing stands of termite mounds. Return to Darwin, arriving early evening, where your short break concludes.

Itinerary Nov - Apr

As this Short Break departs at 6.30am, accommodation will need to be pre-booked for the previous night.

Day 1: Darwin - Kakadu National Park

Travel via Adelaide River and the Marrakai Plains deep into Kakadu National Park. Take a guided walk at Nourlangie Rock where your Driver Guide will lead you on a walk to view the rock art galleries. After lunch, join your local guide on a cruise of Yellow Water Billabong. Search for saltwater crocodiles and the colourful range of birdlife for which this region is renowned. Visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre to view the informative displays depicting the traditions of the Aboriginal people in Kakadu.

Optional Experience: Add-on a 50 minute scenic flight over Arnhem Land Escarpment

Experiencing Kakadu from the air gives you a true sense of the vastness of this amazing landscape. Between June & November, this fabulous scenic flight takes you out over Arnhem Land and Dinosaur Valley, following the rugged escarpment along the boundary of Kakadu National Park. It passes ancient Nourlangie and Lightning Dreaming, the beautiful savannah woodlands, South Alligator River, deep-water billabongs and floodplains. Between December & May, you’ll fly over breathtaking Jim Jim and Twin Falls.​

Day 2: Kakadu National Park - Darwin

This morning join your Driver Guide to explore the World Heritage Area of Ubirr, where you’ll climb up through the ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries, believed to be 20,000 years old, to the lookout for the view over the surrounding wetlands. Join the Guluyambi Cruise along the East Alligator River. An Aboriginal guide will provide an insight into their culture, including local mythology, the river’s abundant food chain, as well as bush survival skills. With special permission of the local people, you are able to go ashore in Arnhem Land. Visit the Bowali Visitor Centre before returning to Darwin.

Day 3: Katherine

Travel south through tropical country, passing former WWII airstrips. We make a short stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, a site dedicated to those killed in the air raids in Darwin in the 1940’s. Continue to Edith Falls, where there is time for a refreshing swim in the waterhole beneath the falls (conditions permitting). Enjoy lunch and a 2 hour scenic cruise through Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park. Enjoy a brief tour of Katherine, the hub of the region’s cattle and farming industries. An evening stop is made at Adelaide River where you may purchase dinner (own expense). You may like to sample the famous ‘Barra and Chips’, before returning to Darwin.

Day 4: Litchfield National Park

Leaving Darwin, we follow the Stuart Highway via the township of Batchelor to Litchfield National Park. Visiting the main falls of the Park, you have the opportunity for scenic and interpretive bush and monsoon vine forest walks.
