Itineraries

8 Day Southern Kimberley Dream – Mitchell Plateau to Broome

Day 1

BROOME, MITCHEL PLATEAU AIRSTRIP, HUNTER RIVER

Your journey will begin with a coach transfer from your Broome accommodation to the airport at approximately 7:30am. The light aircraft flight to Mitchell Plateau will give you a wonderful aerial perspective of the unique Kimberley landscape with its vivid colours, patterns and occasional whale spotting. On arrival at the Mitchell Plateau airstrip, you will board a helicopter for a 30 minute scenic flight over the multi-tiered Mitchell Falls and land directly onto Ocean Dream’s helideck. Meet your captain, crew and fellow guests and enjoy a sumptuous lunch prepared by our onboard chef. The afternoon will be spent exploring the area in our expedition tenders before a brilliant sunset with drinks and canapes.

Day 2

HUNTER RIVER, CARRENING BAY

Fishing enthusiasts will get their chance to throw out a line in the morning or try their luck at mud crabbing in Porosus Creek. Ocean Dream will then depart for Careening Bay and visit the famous Mermaid Boab tree. Discover the history behind Lieutenant Phillip Parker King’s quest to accurately chart the Kimberley coast and the careening of his ship HMC Mermaid. Ocean Dream will then depart for Saint George Basin and anchor in Lushington Valley overnight.

Day 3

PRINCE REGENT RIVER – KING CASCADE FALLS

Entering the Prince Regent River in the morning, it’s time to put your bathers on as Ocean Dream is manoeuvred directly under the King Cascade Falls. Feel the power of the falls from the bow of the vessel before a moderate climb up the falls for a refreshing swim in the Cascade pool. A tender excursion will take you upriver to the scenic “amphitheatre” falls and explore an ancient Bradshaw art site. Also known as Gwion Gwion, the rock art depicts human figures ornamented with accessories such as bags, tassels and headdresses and has been dated around 20,000 years old.

Day 4

SHEEP ISLAND, CAMDEN HARBOUR, SLATE ISLANDS

Discover Sheep Island and the history behind the failed white settlement at Camden Harbour in 1864. Keep an eye out for ship wrecks, gravesites, and archaeological findings. Explore the Slate Islands and the myriad of wildlife species that call this sanctuary home. Enjoy a beach swim and take a walk around the incredible rock formations whilst on the lookout for turtle tracks.

Day 5

RED CONE CREEK – RUBY FALLS, MONTGOMERY REEF, RAFT POINT

Have a go at catching a Barra or try your luck in the mangroves for some mud crabs. The crew will take you on a tender vessel excursion up Red Cone Creek for a refreshing dip at the beautiful Ruby Falls. The afternoon is spent exploring Doubtful Bay and the incredible spectacle of Montgomery Reef. Witness as 400 square kilometres of coral reef appears to rise out of the water on the falling tide, creating hundreds of cascading waterfalls as water rushes off the reef. The reef attracts an abundance of marine life including turtles, manta rays, dugongs, dolphins, crabs and fish.

Day 6

TALBOT BAY – HORIZONTAL FALLS

The Horizontal Falls are one of the natural wonders of the Kimberley. Guests have the option of taking a fast boat ride through the falls and a scenic flight for an aerial view. We take a tender vessel excursion up Cyclone Creek to explore the incredible rock formations created billions of years ago. Fascinating wildlife to be observed in water and on land.

Day 7

CROCODILE CREEK, SILICA BEACH

Enjoy an expedition up Crocodile Creek and a freshwater swim in a spring fed waterhole. Take in the beautiful scenery as we cruise through Yampi Sound to Silica Beach, located on Hidden Island. Forming part of the Buccaneer Archipelago, it is named after the high content of Silica in the sand, and is a lovely place to swim and stretch your legs. This is your last evening under the Kimberley skies as we cruise past Cape Leveque and along the Dampier Peninsula towards Broome.

Day 8

BROOME

Ocean Dream will arrive in Broome where we say our goodbyes. After a final delicious breakfast, a coach transfer will take guests to their Broome accommodation or the airport. Disembarkation is approximately at 8:00am.

6 Night Rowley Shoals Dream Cruise

Day 1

Broome

Departure is from Broome around 6pm for an overnight steam. Guests will enjoy a delicious meal prepared by the onboard chef before settling in for the evening.

Day 2

Rowley Shoals

Arrival the next morning to the Rowley Shoals is an adventure in itself as the vessel negotiates a narrow channel at high tide to reach the crystal blue lagoon.

Day 3-6

Rowley Shoals

Brimming with sea life and prized for its pristine coral gardens, the following 5-7 days will be spent in an extremely remote and unique water wonderland.

Day 7

Arrive in Broome

Departing in the late afternoon on the final day, Ocean Dream will cruise through the night to arrive in Broome the following morning.

8 Day Southern Kimberley Dream – Broome to Mitchell Plateau

Day 1

BROOME DEPARTURE

A courtesy vehicle will pick you up from your Broome accommodation around 1:30pm and take you to Ocean Dream. Your Kimberley Wilderness journey will begin with a refreshing drink as we cruise past Cable Beach, famous for its aquamarine water, camels and beautiful sunsets. Sit back and relax as you enjoy your first gourmet dining experience and meet your fellow passengers. The vessel will continue to steam north along the Dampier Peninsula and past Cape Leveque as you sleep through the night.

Day 2

SILICA BEACH, CROCODILE CREEK

Silica Beach is located on Hidden Island and forms part of the 800 islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago. Named after the high content of Silica in the sand, the beach is a lovely place to swim and stretch your legs. Enjoy an expedition up Crocodile Creek and a freshwater swim in a spring fed waterhole. Anchorage overnight in one of the many beautiful creeks.

Day 3

TALBOT BAY – HORIZONTAL FALLS

The Horizontal Falls are one of the natural wonders of the Kimberley. Guests have the option of taking a fast boat ride through the falls and a scenic flight for an aerial view. We take a tender vessel excursion up Cyclone Creek to explore the incredible rock formations created billions of years ago. Fascinating wildlife to be observed in water and on land.

Day 4

DOUBTFUL BAY – MONTGOMERY REEF, RAFT POINT

The morning is spent exploring the Doubtful Bay and the incredible spectacle of Montgomery Reef. Witness as 400 square kilometres of coral reef appears to rise out of the water on the falling tide, creating hundreds of cascading waterfalls as the water rushes off the reef. The reef attracts an abundance of marine life including turtles, manta rays, dugongs, dolphins, crabs and fish. In the afternoon we will put on our hiking boots for a moderate climb up to the Raft Point caves to explore a well preserved collection of Wandjina rock art. Delicious canapes and drinks on the bow of Ocean Dream will top off an incredible day of adventure with a sunset you will never forget.

Day 5

RED CONE CREEK – RUBY FALLS

Fishing enthusiasts will delight in the day’s activities as the hunt for the elusive Barramundi is on. Have a go at catching a Barra or try your luck in the mangroves for some mud crabs. Later on, the crew will take you on a tender vessel excursion up Red Cone Creek for a refreshing dip at the beautiful Ruby Falls, a picturesque spot for scenic photography. Back on the vessel, the chef will prepare all freshly caught fish for a sensational seafood feast on Ocean Dream.

Day 6

SLATE ISLANDS, SHEEP ISLAND, CAMDEN HARBOUR

Explore the Slate Islands and the myriad of wildlife species that call this sanctuary home. Enjoy a beach swim and take a walk around the incredible rock formations whilst on the lookout for turtle tracks. The afternoon is spent discovering Sheep Island and the history behind the failed white settlement at Camden Harbour in 1864. Keep an eye out for ship wrecks, gravesites, and archaeological findings. Once back on the vessel, we will steam into St George Basin and the Prince Regent River.

Day 7

Enjoy a final delicious breakfast and a scenic cruise up Porosus Creek. Say your final goodbyes as you depart from the onboard helideck and take a scenic helicopter flight over the multi-tiered Mitchell Falls. From Mitchell Plateau, you will board a light aircraft for the flight back to Broome. Arriving approximately 4pm, a coach transfer will take you to your Broome accommodation. Ocean Dream Charters recommends staying overnight in Broome in case of any unforeseen delays.

8 Day Northern Kimberley Dream – Mitchell Plateau to Wyndham

Day 1

LIGHT AIRCRAFT FLIGHT & SCENIC HELICOPTER FLIGHT

A courtesy vehicle will pick you up from your Kununurra accommodation around 7:30am and transfer you to the airport for your flight to Mitchell Plateau airstrip where your journey begins.

Day 2

HUNTER RIVER

Enjoy an early morning fish or a leisurely breakfast before taking a scenic tender excursion up Hunter River and into Porosus Creek.

Day 3

MITCHELL RIVER

For the enthusiasts fishing and mud crabbing is on offer at low tide and then after lunch we’ll indulge in a freshwater swim in Surveyors Pool. We’ll depart at sunset for Vansittart Bay.

Day 4

VASITTART BAY

Visit WWII history with the crash site of a DC3 aircraft, located on the eastern side of Vansittart Bay. We also explore the incredible rock art known as Gwion Gwion, dated some 20,000 years old, which is unique to the Kimberley.

Day 5

DRYSDALE RIVER

Opportunity to fish for some pelagic species of fish as well as the mangrove varieties. A beautiful river system to explore in our tender vessels with waterfalls and Indigenous art to be discovered.

Day 6

KING GEORGE RIVER

At high tide we cross the sandbars of the King George River, one of the great Kimberley icons with a dual waterfall that has a vertical drop of over 80m, making it one the tallest waterfalls in Western Australia.

Day 7

BERKLEY RIVER

Early morning, we cruise up the Berkeley River, one of the most beautiful rivers in the Kimberley. Take a tender excursion up the river and fish off the flat rocks for barramundi or walk to a fresh water pool. This is your last evening under the Kimberley skies as we cruise down Cambridge Gulf, towards Wyndham.

Day 8

WYNDHAM PORT, KUNUNURRA

We arrive into Wyndham Port early in the morning. After a final breakfast served on board, a coach transfer will take you to Kununurra arriving approx. 10am.

8 Day Northern Kimberley Dream – Wyndham to Mitchell Plateau

Day 1

WYNDHAM

A courtesy vehicle will pick you up from your Kununurra accommodation around 2:30pm and transfer you to MV Ocean Dream for a 4pm departure in Wyndham.

Day 2

BERKLEY RIVER

We explore the Berkeley River which is considered one of the most beautiful rivers in the Kimberley. There are spectacular waterfalls to explore, fabulous fishing opportunities and several fresh waterholes to cool down in.

Day 3

KING GEORGE RIVER

At high tide we cross the sandbars of the King George River, one of the great Kimberley icons with a dual waterfall that has a vertical drop of over 80m, making it one the tallest waterfalls in Western Australia.

Day 4

DRYSDALE RIVER

Opportunity to fish for some pelagic species of fish as well as the mangrove varieties. A beautiful river system to explore in our tender vessels with waterfalls and Indigenous art to be discovered.

Helicopter transfers to Mitchell Plateau will depart the vessel late morning after a final breakfast and tender vessel expedition. Flights departing Mitchell Plateau will have guests arriving into Kununurra by mid afternoon.

12 Day Waterfall Dream – Wyndham to Broome

Day 1

WYNDHAM PORT – KUNUNURRA

A courtesy vehicle will pick up you up from your accommodation in Kununurra and drive you to Ocean Dream at Wyndham Port, about one hour’s drive. Begin your cruise with a cold drink as you cruise out of the Cambridge Gulf watching the the beautiful sunset. Unpack, meet your fellow adventurers and enjoy a delicious dinner served on the rear deck, then get settled whilst we cruise through the night towards the Berkley River.

Day 2

BERKELEY RIVER

Join a tender vessel excursion to explore the beautiful Berkeley River, with towering gorges, waterfalls and sandstone cliffs. We discover the head of this incredible river system and the myriad of animal species that call this place home. We discover freshwater swimming holes and there is the opportunity for a spot of fishing.

Day 3

KING GEORGE RIVER, KING GEORGE FALLS

At high tide we cross the sandbars of the King George River and make our way up to the falls. The King George River has the highest twin falls in Western Australia, at over 80m. Experience the incredible power of the falls as Ocean Dream is manoeuvred up close. For those that are feeling adventurous, there is a hike to the top of the falls and a freshwater swim.

Day 4

KOOLAMA BAY

We visit the MV Koolama stranding site and survivor camp at Koolama Bay. In 1942, a Japanese air attack bombed the Koolama and it is significant to the Kwini people who helped the 180 passengers and crew to reach safety. Beach and waterfall excursion in this beautiful location.

Day 5

VANSITTART BAY, JAR ISLAND

Tender vessel excursion out to Jar Island to explore the fascinating Gwion Gwion art, also known as Bradshaw Art. Named after Joseph Bradshaw who in 1891 became the first European to record these amazing paintings. Unique to the Kimberley region, Gwion Gwion art is recorded to be over 17,000 years old. Opportunity to walk to the crash site of DC3 aircraft which crashed in 1942, located on the eastern side of Vansittart Bay. Evening steam around Cape Londonderry, the most northern tip of Western Australia.

Day 6

MONTAGUE SOUND​

Visit one of the largest sandstone islands and home to some amazing Bradshaw and Wandjina art. This is a great area for fishing and exploring some remote beautiful beaches to stretch your legs.

Day 7

HUNTER RIVER, MITCHELL FALLS HELICOPTER FLIGHT

the Bonaparte Archipelago. Arriving at the Hunter River, one of the most picturesque places in the Kimberley, there will be plenty of fishing on offer. Scenic cruise along Porosus Creek and optional helicopter flights will be available over the multi-tiered Mitchell Falls.

Day 8

PRINCE REGENT RIVER, KING CASCADE FALLS​

Experience the King Cascade Falls from the bow of Ocean Dream as she is manoeuvred directly under the waterfalls. Take a hike up to the top pool for a freshwater swim and later there is the opportunity to fish in the St. George Basin.

BROOME

A courtesy vehicle will pick you up from your accommodation in Broome and transfer you to Ocean Dream. Be welcomed aboard and introduced to your captain, crew and fellow guests as you enjoy a cold drink whilst cruising past the famous Cable Beach. Settle in for the night as we steam along the Dampier Peninsula and past Cape Leveque.

MONTAGUE SOUND

Visit one of the largest sandstone islands and home to some amazing Bradshaw and Wandjina art. This is a great area for fishing and exploring some remote beautiful beaches to stretch your legs.

At high tide we cross the sandbars of the King George River and make our way up to the falls. The King George River has the highest twin falls in Western Australia, at over 80m. Experience the incredible power of the falls as Ocean Dream is manoeuvred up close. For those that are feeling adventurous, there is a hike to the top of the falls and a freshwater swim.

BERKELEY RIVER

Join a tender vessel excursion to explore the beautiful Berkeley River, with towering gorges, waterfalls and sandstone cliffs. We discover the head of this incredible river system and the myriad of animal species that call this place home. We discover freshwater swimming holes and there is the opportunity for a spot of fishing.

Day 12

ARRIVE WYNDHAM PORT, TRANSFER TO KUNUNURRA

Ocean Dream will arrive in Wyndham Port where we say our goodbyes. After a final delicious breakfast, a coach transfer will take guests to their Kununurra accommodation or the airport. Disembarkation is approximately at 8:30am.

Day 1

BROOME

A courtesy vehicle will pick you up from your accommodation in Broome and transfer you to Ocean Dream. Be welcomed aboard and introduced to your captain, crew and fellow guests as you enjoy a cold drink whilst cruising past the famous Cable Beach. Settle in for the night as we steam along the Dampier Peninsula and past Cape Leveque.

Day 2

SILICA BEACH

Silica Beach is located on Hidden Island and forms part of the 800 islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago. Named after the high content of Silica in the sand, the beach is a lovely place to swim and stretch your legs. Enjoy an expedition up Crocodile Creek and a freshwater swim in a spring fed waterhole. Anchorage overnight in one of the many beautiful creeks.

Day 3

TALBOT BAY

The Horizontal Falls are one of the natural wonders of the Kimberley. Guests have the option of taking a fast boat ride through the falls and a scenic helicopter flight for an aerial view. We take a tender vessel excursion up Cyclone Creek to explore the incredible rock formations created billions of years ago. Fascinating wildlife to be observed in water and on land.

Day 4

MONTGOMERY REEF

Montgomery reef is a diverse coral reef system that appears to rise on a falling tide. Only accessible by boat, the reef attracts an abundance of marine life including fish, crabs, turtles, manta rays, dugongs and crocodiles. Later on, we will explore Red Cone Creek with a spot of fishing or mud crabbing, followed by a swim at the beautiful Ruby Falls.

Day 5

PRINCE REGENT RIVER

Experience the King Cascade Falls from the bow of Ocean Dream as she is manoeuvred directly under the waterfalls. Take a hike up to the top pool for a freshwater swim and later there is the opportunity to fish in the St. George Basin.

Day 6

HUNTER RIVER

Today we are cruising past an assortment of islands that form the Bonaparte Archipelago. Arriving at the Hunter River, one of the most picturesque places in the Kimberley, there will be plenty of fishing on offer. Scenic cruise along Porosus Creek and optional helicopter flights will be available over the multi-tiered Mitchell Falls.

Day 7

MONTAGUE SOUND

Visit one of the largest sandstone islands and home to some amazing Bradshaw and Wandjina art. This is a great area for fishing and exploring some remote beautiful beaches to stretch your legs.

Day 8

VANSITTART BAY

Tender vessel excursion out to Jar Island to explore the fascinating Gwion Gwion art, also known as Bradshaw Art. Named after Joseph Bradshaw who in 1891 became the first European to record these amazing paintings. Unique to the Kimberley region, Gwion Gwion art is recorded to be over 17,000 years old. Opportunity to walk to the crash site of DC3 aircraft which crashed in 1942, located on the eastern side of Vansittart Bay. Evening steam around Cape Londonderry, the most northern tip of Western Australia.

Begin your cruise with a cold drink as you cruise out of the Cambridge Gulf watching the beautiful sunset. Unpack, meet your fellow adventurers and enjoy a delicious dinner served on the rear deck, then get settled whilst we cruise through the night towards the Berkley River.

The morning is spent exploring the Collier Bay and the incredible spectacle of Montgomery Reef. Witness as 400 square kilometers of coral reef appears to rise out of the water on the falling tide, creating hundreds of cascading waterfalls as the water rushes off the reef. The reef attracts an abundance of marine life including turtles, mantra rays, dugongs, dolphins, sharks, crabs and fish. Delicious canapes and drinks on the bow of Ocean Dream will top off an incredible day of adventure with a sunset you will never forget.

Day 5

Doubtful Bay – Ruby Falls

Fishing enthusiasts will delight in the day’s activities as the hunt for the elusive Barramundi is on. In the afternoon, the crew will take you on a tender vessel excursion up Red Cone Creek for a refreshing dip at the beautiful Ruby Falls, a picturesque spot for scenic photography. Back on the vessel, the chef will prepare all freshly caught fish for a sensational seafood feast.

Day 6

Cygnet Bay

Enjoy a final delicious breakfast and say your goodbyes to the crew before you depart Ocean Dream by tender and step back on land at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. Learn the fascinating history of pearling as you are guided through their fully operation pearl farm on a one-hour tour. Take in your final view of the bright orange sand and stunning blue water bays of the region over a delightful Barramundi lunch before departing by coach to transfer back to your Broome accommodation. ocean Dream Charters recommends staying overnight in Broome in case of any unforeseen delays.
